|Name:||Ross House Falkland|
|Leave the hustle and bustle of modern living behind as you pack and embark on a unique adventure into historical old Scotland. Ross House is a beautiful 17th century stone built cottage occupying a prime position in one of Scotland's most perfectly preserved ancient towns with a fairy tale Royal Palace only steps away.|
Following an extensive refurbishment programme, the cottage now offers the very best in comfortable, luxury accommodation whilst remaining faithful to the original style and feel of the building.
The beautiful hand-turned oak kitchen boasts underfloor heating and a wood burning stove. The Britannia double oven with six gas burners gives ample scope for even the most exacting cooks and a centre table with soft leather chairs provides a cosy dining place in front of the fireplace.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, both with feature fireplaces and a living room with open fire. Farrow and Ball wall coverings, beautiful art work and bespoke furnishings guarantee the ultimate in rest and relaxation.
A further bedroom and a dining room with feature fireplace, comprise the lower front portion of the house, both decorated in styles in keeping with the original era of the property.
The two bathrooms have been completed to the very highest specification with Lefroy Brooks, Dornbracht, and Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware; marble and limestone tiling by Fired Earth. Underfloor heating is paired with radiators for extra warmth in winter time.
The back garden offers a verdant array of shrubs and bushes with a patio and dining terrace. There is plenty of room for sunbathing and a barbeque for guests' use.
We are very fortunate in Falkland to have so many handy service providers right on our doorstep. Across the road from the cottage is a fascinating music and antiquity lovers' paradise specialising in antique violins and a street away there is a well stocked pharmacy for life's more practical requirements. A short stroll takes you to a bank, a top class bakers and greengrocers, a hairdressers and a post office with a general store. Three boutique shops carry a variety of tasteful take-home gifts.
The aptly named Covenanter Hotel with its excellent restaurant, is a great place to dine without needing to venture more than a few yards from the cottage. The Bruce pub offers draft ale and hearty meals as does The Lomond Tavern, a popular eatery for locals and visitors. The Stag Inn on the far side of the village green offers live performances with a regional emphasis.
A twenty minute walk through woodland paths takes you to a lovely organic farm shop and café where you can stock up on grocery essentials and sample delicious homemade cakes and soups either inside the cosy café building or 'al fresco' in the extensive farm gardens.
There are over 100 golf courses within a 50 mile radius.
Falkland has its own 9 hole golf course offering attractive Green Fees of £40 weekly, and £13 - £16 daily.
St Andrews with its world famous Old Course is only a 30 minute drive away. Green fees start from £75 for the Old Course and £8 for the Balgove Course.
Some beautiful walks are to be enjoyed over the Lomond Hills which rise above the town and provide spectacular panoramic views. Specially designated walks around Falkland Estate offer paths and wooded areas immaculately maintained by highly dedicated volunteers. These are easily accessible from the cottage within minutes on foot. A short drive takes you to the beautiful and varied Fife Coastal Path which runs all the way from the Forth Estuary to the Tay Estuary.
300 miles of excellent cycle paths and of special interest is the stunning Fife Coastal Path which takes in beautiful fishing villages such as Crail and Anstruther, wildlife reserves, and award winning beaches.
All expeditions are catered for from high-end Edinburgh department stores to specialist boutiques, delicatessens, and wine merchants in Cupar and St Andrews. There is also a good offering on the cottage doorstep.
Falkland Palace Royal Tennis Club offer games at the real tennis court in the palace gardens. The courts were originally built for James V of Scotland in 1539 and play still continues today with the original rules observed. More details are available from the club.
